Overview
At the heart of a Multimedia Delivery System is the technology enabling
the material to be delivered to the viewer - that is, encoded, stored, served,
delivered, decoded, and accessed. The material needs to be digitally encoded,
possibly in multiple formats, producing large files which need to be stored and
the large file system managed. It needs to be served onto and delivered over communications
networks of various capabilities. The data stream must be decoded and played at
the user end, and the user may need to be able to interact with the video server
to control the data stream. Usage logging software may be needed to record and
help manage how the system is used.
